Overview

Works under the supervision of the Staff Development manager in providing for the educational needs of staff by planning nursing orientation, in-service programs, and continuing education programs. Demonstrates and teaches patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing personnel. Evaluates procedures, programs, and nursing staff performance skills in application of procedures required for optimum functioning within the nursing units. Maintains records of classroom and clinical in-service participation.

Responsibilities

  • Remains current on pertinent clinical issues
  • Assist nursing personnel in meeting the educational needs of patients/families
  • Maintains appropriate class records and evaluates pre and post test responses
  • Creates and assigns classes/courses in learning management systems
  • Acts as administrator for Lippincott Procedures/Advisor and ensures critical notes and information specific to HCH is up to date
  • Facilitates assignment and certification modalities of completion via RQI for ALS, PALS, BLS
  • Remains current on acceptable adult learning methodologies by participating in webinars and continuing education opportunities
  • Assists with completing fit testing for staff
  • Establishes criteria for in-services, constructs curriculum, course outlines, objectives, teaching methods, examinations and evaluation tools for each program
  • Assists with ensuring nursing compliance with ACHC standards as well as the nursing standards of practice

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of pathophysiology, the nursing process, nursing interventions, pharmacology, methods utilized for delivering nursing care, and the management of patients and personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective lines of communication, a comprehensive knowledge of nursing procedures, and the ability to coordinate personnel activities in a cooperative effort to accomplish results which are normally acquired after three years of clinical experience at the RN level.
  • Utilization of principles of adult learning in teaching situations and effective communication skills which may be acquired through continuing education classes.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) strongly preferred
  • Must have an active registered nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana
