Overview

Works under the general supervision in performing a variety of diagnostic MRI procedures according to departmental protocol as requested by the physician order. Positions patient, adjusts and sets protocol parameters on MRI scanning equipment. Maintains established organization and department policies, prodcedures, objectives, QA, and safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares MRI room for the application of diagnostic examinations, making sure equipment is functioning properly and adequate supplies are available.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and informs them of purpose of examination, gathers information from patients as necessary.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently applies all required MRI safety standards.
  • Operates specialized MRI scanner to provide adequate. detailed diagnostic information.
  • Communicates with Central Scheduling and other departments in scheduling add-on examinations, answers voicemail and pages ASAP
  • Demonstrates proper technique and appropriate knowledge in performing venipuncture/IV initiation for patients of all ages.
  • Consults with radiologists, physicians and nursing staff regarding any change in the patient conditions or for clarification/appropriateness of ordered examination.
  • Performs in a calm, efficient, and professional manner in an emergency situation.
  • Takes responsibility for trouble shooting equipment/scanner failures. Contacts service engineer when needed and keeps supervisor/director informed of status.

Qualifications

  • Work requires a comprehensive knowledge of MRI equipment, procedures and cross sectional anatomy, usually obtained during the course of a two year AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology or through MRI specific post-training. 
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology and certification by the Indiana State Board of Health is required. 
  • Work requires the ability to effectively deal with patients, physicians, and coworkers to carry out all of the functions of the MRI area in an efficient manner.  This is normally acquired after three (3) years as a staff or supervisory Registered Technologist.
  • ARRT MRI certification required within first year of employment.
  • MRI safety officer certification required within first 2 years of employment.

Working Hours

M-F 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Holiday Rotation.
